- CPMEA’s Stand on the Establishment of Health Emergency Readiness Canada (HERC)
PRESS RELEASE September 28, 2024, Toronto - The Canadian Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Exporters Alliance (CPMEA) welcomes the announcement by the federal government of the creation of Health Emergency Readiness Canada (HERC). This agency is an important development towards ensuring national security of supply for medicines for Canadians. We are very pleased to see a commitment from the federal government to work with industry on a strategy to ensure access for all Canadians to the medicines that they need everyday. Looking to the success of similar initiatives in Europe and the U.S., and working with Canada’s domestic pharmaceutical manufacturing sector, HERC is a great opportunity to build a strong domestic production ecosystem through targeted industrial policy and partnerships with Canadian producers. As Canada’s largest producers of medicines, the members of the CPMEA welcome the opportunity to work together with government to avert shortages, increase local production, and build a resilient domestic production network. About the CPMEA The Canadian Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Exporters Alliance (CPMEA) represents the largest manufacturers of pharmaceutical products in Canada. Canadian pharmaceutical producers play a crucial role in providing a dependable supply of medicines for Canadians, reducing our reliance on foreign sources, and averting shortages. Our members have united to tell the story about the economic impact and contribution of Canadian medicine producers, as well as the unique challenges we face. Our vision is to collaborate with stakeholders to make Canada the best country in the world for manufacturing medicines. For further information contact by email info@cpmea.ca
